Past Performance
- Project Name: Dismounted Augmented Reality System (DARTS)
Contract #: N61339-04-C-0050
Funding: $149,985
Period of Performance: March 23 - Oct 23, 2004
Description: In this effort we created a feasibility prototype for a training system for dismounted soldiers. The system was a low cost, man-wearable system that injected a virtual opposing force into the real-world, real-time view of the trainee in real time. When fully developed the system will be able to support infantry training for small units in any urban or rural setting. In this first phase we built the complete end-to-end system and demonstrated how we can support real-time augmented reality views from a stationary position, while moving the head freely. We also demonstrated a capability to properly occult our virtual OPFOR in real-time with dynamic and static objects.
Functional areas: 3.1, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.12, 3.18, 3.20

- Project Name: Dismounted Augmented Reality System (DARTS) Phase II
Contract #: N61339-05-C-0047
Funding: $400,000
Period of Performance: February 3, 2004 – September 2006
Description: In this effort we created a feasibility prototype for a training system for dismounted soldiers. The system was a low cost, man-wearable system that injected a virtual opposing force into the real-world, real-time view of the trainee in real time. When fully developed the system will be able to support infantry training for small units in any urban or rural setting. In this second phase of the program, we are taking the feasibility prototype built under contract N61339-04-C-0050 and extending the capability of the system to support the free movement of the trainee. We will also demonstrate a capability to interact with other simulations and simulators through an HLA/DIS interface. We will also demonstrate an improved capability to provide real-time, dynamic occultation of virtual entities and objects.

- Project Name: Prototype Aviation Combat Crew Trainer
Contract #: N61339-05-C-0052
Period of Performance: February 2005 – February 2007
Description: In this effort, we will build a prototype simulator to support the training of non-rated aircrew members for the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter. Unique features of this simulator will include its ability to be transported to an operational area for use at forward deployed US Army Aviation Brigades. The system will focus on gunnery training skills using the new M240H machine fun that is just being delivered to operational units in 2005. The simulator will train hoist and cargo hook operations. It will support training for brownout conditions.
Functional areas: 3.1, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.12, 3.18, 3.20
